MATRIGEL®
Application and effect
How does MATRIGEL® work on the skin?
Are there side effects?
MATRIGEL® has been sold worldwide for many years, and there are no known side effects.
Generally products should not be used if there is a known allergy to one of the ingredients. With highly inflamed forms of acne or other inflammations, massages should generally not be performed and MATRIGEL® should not be used as a massage product.
Our masks are preservative and fragrance free and are considered to be hypoallergenic. They are ideal for the care of sensitive skin. When treating customers with sensitive skin, an irritant-free activator should be used, so further skin irritation is avoided.
What can be used to moisten MATRIGEL®?
The alginates are part of the group of hydrophilic substances. Water is thus the ideal medium to transform the biomatrix into a massageable gel. Of course, in order to increase the cosmetic effect or to treat special skin deficits, additional cosmetic substances can be used by adding them to the activator. These substances may include vitamins, skin moistening agents or minerals. It is important that the majority of the base is made up of water. The biomatrix cannot be dissolved in a purely oil-based liquid. The use of emulsions impedes the dissolution of the biomatrix.
MATRIGEL® must be activated with sufficient liquid so that it can completely dissolve to form a gel. If too little liquid is used, MATRIGEL® has less lubricity and spreadability. It takes longer for the pads to dissolve and undissolved residue particles might remain in the gel. These can be dissolved by adding additional liquid and using vigorous massage motions.
Can MATRIGEL® be left on the skin after the treatment?
How long does MATRIGEL® remain on the skin?
Can MATRIGEL® also be used on people with neurodermatitis or other skin diseases?
Neurodermatitis is characterized by a severe disorder of the skin's barrier function. The skin is very sensitive skin and people with neurodermatitis often suffer from several allergies.
Dermatological tests have shown that MATRIGEL® - in spite of this high sensitivity of the skin - can be used. If MATRIGEL® is applied to the skin of neurodermatitis sufferers, appropriate application of post-care is important.
For people with psoriasis or other itchy skin diseases, the application of a massage with a low-oil face mask such as MATRIGEL® is very pleasant. Subsequently, the affected areas of skin should be treated as usual.
