Scientific cooperation
January 2007 // Dr. Suwelack Skin & Health Care AG is focussing on development, working closely with university research partners.
The aim is to continuously extend the scientific know-how of Dr. Suwelack Skin & Health Care AG in the development, manufacture and use of collagen matrices in wound care.
Extensive pre-clinical and clinical studies on humans have been carried out together with:
- the Dutch Burns Foundation, The Red Cross Hospital, Beverwijk, The Netherlands
- Münster University Hospital, Experimental and Clinical Haemostaseology
These studies include:
- the use of MATRIDERM® in third degree burns and for reconstructive surgery
- in vitro and in vivo studies of MATRISTYPT® for effective haemostasis
Both collagen matrices - MATRIDERM® and MATRISTYPT® - have in the meantime been successfully launched on the market as medical devices with the CE mark.
Further scientific cooperation gives regular added impetus to products for particular indications:
- RWTH Aachen University: University Hospital, Hospital for Plastic Surgery, Hand and Burns Surgery, Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of Pathology, German Wool Research Institute - Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded project to develop a collagen-based tissue substitute.
- Eberhard Karl University, Tübingen: Radio-oncology Hospital - Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded project to develop a vital, autologous skin substitute based on a collagen matrix for the treatment of chronic wounds.
- University of New York at Stony Brook: Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology & Pathology - development of innovative collagen-based biomatrices for a broad spectrum of wound care.
- University of New York at Stony Brook: Department of Medicine - development of a new generation of effective haemostyptics based on Dr. Suwelack Skin & Health Care collagen matrix.
